To focus attention on the power and importance of written literacy and by reading aloud in middle and upper grades (MS & HS), I suggest THE STAMP COLLECTOR by Jennifer Lanthier (illustrated by Francois Thisdale), Fitzhenry & Whiteside 2012. What a moving and provocative read, and a great potential stimulator of student writing, including in college writing and/or methods courses.
